How we work

Six steps, and you can see all of them

No black box and no monthly report full of graphs that never turns into a phone call. Here is exactly what happens, what it takes from you, and roughly how long each part lasts.

  1. 01

    A conversation

    Half an hour, no charge

We ask what you sell, who buys it, what a good enquiry looks like and what is not working now. We look at your current site and at what your competitors are doing. No slide deck, no discovery workshop billed by the hour.

What we need from you: Half an hour of your time, and honesty about what is actually going wrong.

  2. 02

    A fixed price

    Within a day or two

A written quote with a fixed number, a list of exactly what is included, and a timescale. It does not move unless you ask for something that was not in the original scope — and if you do, we price that separately before doing it.

What we need from you: A decision. Take as long as you like; we will not chase you.

  3. 03

    Structure before design

    Week one to two

We agree what pages exist and what each one has to achieve before anyone opens a design tool. This is the stage that decides whether the site works, and it is the stage most agencies skip.

What we need from you: Feedback on the page structure, and any content you already have.

  4. 04

    Design and copy together

    Week two to four

You see real pages with real words in them, not grey mockups full of lorem ipsum. Design and copy happen together, because a headline written to fit a box somebody already drew is a headline nobody will read.

What we need from you: Review and comments. Faster feedback means a faster launch.

  5. 05

    Build and test

    Week four to five

Built, then checked on real devices rather than a browser simulator. We test every form, check speed on a throttled mobile connection, run accessibility checks and validate the structured data.

What we need from you: A final look, and any last content changes.

  6. 06

    Launch, then watch

Week five to six, then a month

Every old URL redirected to its equivalent, analytics live, Search Console verified, sitemap submitted. Then we watch Search Console for four weeks and fix anything that moves the wrong way.

What we need from you: Nothing. This bit is on us.

The bit that goes wrong elsewhere

Why projects run late

In our experience it is almost never the build. It is content. A project stalls because nobody has written the About page, or the photographs of the workshop never got taken, or a decision needs three people in a room and two of them are on holiday.

So we front-load it. We tell you at the quote stage exactly what content we need and when, and if you would rather we wrote and photographed it, we price that in — rather than letting it quietly become the thing that adds six weeks.

Questions about the process

How long does a website take?

Four to six weeks for most projects. Ecommerce runs six to ten. The variable is almost never our end — it is waiting on content and waiting on decisions. Clients who turn feedback round in a day get their site a fortnight sooner.

What do you need from me?

Your time for one conversation, feedback at two or three points, and whatever content you already have — logos, photographs, existing copy, price lists. If you have none of that, we can produce it, and we will say so in the quote rather than discovering it halfway through.

What if I do not like the design?

We show you the structure before the design and the design before the build, precisely so this gets caught early and cheaply. Two rounds of revisions are included at each stage, and it is rare to need both.

Can I make changes after launch?

Yes. Most of our sites are built so you can edit them yourself, and we record a walkthrough of your specific site so you know how. If you would rather we did it, that is what the maintenance plans are for.

What are the payment terms?

Half to start, half on launch, for most projects. Larger projects split across milestones. Payment is due within 14 days, and we do not hold finished websites hostage over an invoice.

Fancy a straight answer about your website?

Tell us what you are trying to do and we will tell you what it takes, what it costs, and whether it is even worth doing. No pitch deck, no pressure.
