Paid advertising

Facebook & Instagram Ads in Mansfield

Google catches people already searching. Meta interrupts people who were not — which makes the click cheap and the job harder.

Meta advertising works on a completely different principle to search. Nobody on Facebook is looking for a plumber. They are looking at photographs of somebody’s holiday, and your advert is an interruption.

That means the creative does nearly all the work. On Google the targeting is the search term; on Meta the targeting is essentially the advert itself — the right people stop scrolling and the wrong people do not.

It works well for visual products, local awareness, events, offers and retargeting. It works poorly for urgent need-it-now services, and we will say so rather than take the budget.

What you get

Creative built for the feed

Made for a phone, in the right aspect ratios, with the point in the first second. Repurposed print artwork does not work here.

Local targeting done tightly

Radius and postcode targeting that stops where your service area stops, rather than paying to reach Nottingham.

Retargeting that is not oppressive

Frequency capped, converters excluded. Following somebody for six weeks after they bought is wasted money and mildly insulting.

Conversions API where warranted

Server-side tracking recovers a meaningful share of conversions lost to browser restrictions, which materially improves how the platform optimises.

Lead forms or landing pages

In-platform lead forms convert better but produce lower-quality leads. We test both rather than assuming.

Reported honestly

Meta’s own attribution is generous with itself. We report against actual enquiries received, which is usually a smaller and truer number.

What works on Meta locally

  • Visual products — anything where the photograph does the selling
  • Events, launches and time-limited offers
  • Local awareness for a new shop, salon or venue
  • Retargeting website visitors, which is nearly always the best-performing campaign
  • Recruitment, which is quietly one of the strongest uses and rarely mentioned
  • Before-and-after content for trades, which performs unusually well

What does not

Emergency services. Nobody scrolling Instagram decides they need a drain unblocking, and no amount of budget changes that. Those belong on Google.

Complex B2B with long sales cycles, generally. And boosting posts from the Facebook page interface, which is the single most common way local businesses waste money on Meta — it gives you almost none of the targeting or optimisation controls that make the platform work.

What affects the price

From £150/month is a genuine starting point, not a teaser. Here is what moves it, so you can work out roughly where you would land before you ring us.

  • Ad spend under management
  • How much creative we produce versus you supplying it
  • How many audiences and campaigns are running
  • Whether the Conversions API needs implementing

Why local matters here

Facebook & Instagram Ads — the Mansfield picture

Mansfield has an unusually strong local Facebook culture — the community and buy-and-sell groups carry real weight. That makes the audience genuinely reachable and the costs low compared with cities.

It also means organic community presence and paid advertising reinforce each other here in a way they do not everywhere. A business people already recognise from the local groups converts far better when its ads appear.

Facebook & Instagram Ads — your questions

How much do Facebook ads cost?

Locally, £200 to £600 a month of ad spend is a realistic starting point. Reach is cheap around Mansfield compared with city markets, so a modest budget goes a long way.

Should I just boost posts instead?

Boosting is the most expensive way to buy Meta advertising. It gives you a fraction of the targeting and optimisation available in Ads Manager. If you are spending anything meaningful, it should not go through the boost button.

Do Facebook ads work for trades?

For planned and considered work — kitchens, bathrooms, landscaping, driveways — yes, particularly with strong before-and-after imagery. For emergencies, no. Split your budget accordingly.

Why do Meta’s numbers not match my enquiries?

Meta uses a generous attribution model and counts view-through conversions. It will always report more than you can trace. We report against enquiries actually received, which is the number that matters.
