Website Migration in Mansfield
Migrations go wrong in three ways: downtime, lost email, and lost rankings. All three are avoidable, and all three happen constantly.
Moving a website sounds like a file transfer and is not. The files are the easy part. The risk is in DNS, email and URLs.
Change the DNS carelessly and email stops for a day, which for most businesses is far more disruptive than the website being down. Change platform without mapping redirects and you throw away years of accumulated search rankings.
We do it in a fixed order, test before switching anything, and keep the old site running until the new one is confirmed working.

What you get
Built and tested before anything switches
The site runs on the new host, checked properly, before DNS changes. The switchover is then a formality rather than an experiment.
Email handled first, carefully
Mailboxes and records moved and verified before anything else. This is where migrations most often cause real business disruption.
A complete redirect map
Every old URL to its closest equivalent, where the platform is changing. Not everything to the homepage, which loses the value entirely.
DNS with a lowered TTL first
Dropped in advance so the switch propagates in minutes rather than up to 48 hours. A small step that removes most of the downtime risk.
The old site kept running
Left in place until the new one is confirmed. If anything is wrong, we point back and fix it with no pressure.
Monitored afterwards
Search Console watched for four weeks for crawl errors, broken redirects and ranking movement.
Why people move, and whether they should
The usual reasons are legitimate: hosting that is too slow, a host that will not answer the phone, a bill that has crept up, or an agency relationship that has ended.
The one we would push back on is moving purely on price. Saving £8 a month on hosting is not worth it if the new host is oversold and your site becomes slower — you will lose more in conversions than you save. We will say so.
Moving onto our hosting
If you are moving to us, migration is free. Files, database, email, DNS and SSL, done in a working day for most sites, with no downtime you or your customers would notice.
We do not charge for it because it would be a strange thing to charge for. You are already paying us monthly.
What affects the price
From £95 is a genuine starting point, not a teaser. Here is what moves it, so you can work out roughly where you would land before you ring us.
- Whether it is a straight host move or a platform change
- Site size and whether a database is involved
- Whether email is moving too, which is usually the riskiest part
- How many URLs need redirect mapping
Why local matters here
Website Migration — the Mansfield picture
A recurring local situation: the business that has lost contact with whoever built the site, does not know who hosts it, and has an invoice from 2019 as their only clue. That is a migration too, and it starts with detective work rather than file transfer.
We do that fairly regularly. Bring us whatever you have and we will work out where everything actually lives.

Website Migration — your questions
Will my website go down during migration?
Not if it is done properly. The new site is live and tested before DNS changes, and TTLs are lowered in advance so the switch takes minutes. Most migrations have no visible downtime at all.
Will I lose my Google rankings?
A straight host move should have no ranking effect whatsoever — the URLs do not change. A platform change needs a full redirect map, and with one done properly you may see a brief wobble and then recovery.
What about my email?
This is the riskiest part and we handle it first. Mailboxes moved and verified before the switch, and SPF, DKIM and DMARC checked afterwards so mail still reaches the inbox.
Do I need to tell my current host?
Not to migrate — we can take a copy without their involvement in most cases. You will want to cancel afterwards, but only once the new setup is confirmed working.
